Abstract:

Quang Ninh coal basin situated in the North-East of Vietnam is the main coal source for domestic
demain and export. Annually, coal mining activities in Quang Ninh discharge about 130 million m3 of
mine wastewater in the environment. Since a longtime when the concept of “the environment” is not yet
mentioned, the environmental landscape and the ecology of Quang Ninh coal basin were devastated, the
life and the health of miners and residential community were strongly e?ected, in there, the most impacted
environmental components were surface and underground and coastal water.
This article presents the scienti?c and technological solutions have been applicated by VINACOMIN
after the 25 years of application in the mine wastewater treatment in order to disseminate and evaluate
the success taken and to exchange experience for the next orientations which will have a part of the
adaptation to climate change and to the implementation of the strategy of changing “the brown economy”
to “the green one” of Quang Ninh Province.
