Abstract:

Lai Giang River is the second largest river in Binh Dinh province, formed from the merger of the An Lao River and Kim Son River. The river provides water for production and daily life activities in this basin. Besides, the river also receives domestic wastewater from local people. By using the collection method, synthesizing documents, field survey, community consultation, sampling, and analyzing environmental quality, the research results showed that the surface water in Lai Giang river is polluted with organic substances such as BOD5, COD and total suspended solids, in which the concentrations of pollutants at upstream has higher than in the estuary areas because of the people activities, agricultural, and industry... The concentration of pollutants changed belong to the season and decreased in recent years. The research results also assess the status of exploitation and using surface water with the total water for use estimated as 108.51 million m3 in 2025 and the largest for cultivation activity. The study has summarized the status of the wastewater sources discharged into the Lai Giang river basin, mainly the domestic wastewater from the Hoai Nhon urban area and wastewater from industrial clusters. The study has proposed the overall management solutions in exploitation, using water and discharge activities to ensure the sustainability of the Lai Giang river for the economic development of Binh Dinh province
