Abstract:

When supporting pressures applied at the tunnelling face and/or the TBM tail are too high, blow-out occurs ieading to the collapse of tunnellìng process. This blow-out condition is normally caículated as the upper boundary of supporting pressures in tunnelling design, especially when tunnelling in soft soil conditions and with shallovv depths. This paper presents recent blow-out models in the worlđ and introduces a new model for analysing b1ow-out when tunnelling in multi-layered soil. An analysis for a blow-out case stụdy of Hochiminh Metro Line 1 Bến Thành-Suổi Tiên, Vietnam shovvs a good agreement betvveen observed data in the field and analysed results from the multì-layered soi! blow-out model.
