Abstract:

ABSTRACT Cam Ranh city, Khanh Hoa province has many mining and mineral processing activities. The total area of mines and mineral processing zones is about 2,796.2 ha. The main products of mining activity are soil and rock for construction, for example, granite, leveling land, clay, silt clay, sand for construction and topaz gems, quartz, mineral water, mineral mud, peat. These types of mining usually do not generate dangerous chemicals, wastewater for production but provide an existing risk to bring about a lot of dust and noise, which affects the air environment and people who live around mining areas. By the document synthesis method, field survey, community consultation, sampling, and environmental quality analysis, the research results show that the concentration of dust at some locations exceeds QCVN 05:2013/BTNMT, especially in the screening area and on the transportation routes. Mining activities have also impacted the landscape and ecological environment, reducing the forest vegetation and biodiversity, changing the topography, increasing soil erosion, slope erosion, and damaging many transportation routes. The research results have suggested solutions to improve the management efficiency of mineral mining activities and build a sustainable development of the mining industry in Cam Ranh city
