Abstract:

The Daknong Aluminum Company - Vinacomin belongs to Vietnam National Coal - Mineral Industries Holding Corporation Limited, which has the task of mining and processing boxite ore into Alumina. The plant's technology is the Bayer process with a product capacity of 650000 tons of alumina/year and 1.4 million tons of disposal red mud. The amount of red mud being stored in the tailing pond leads to the waste of natural resources (including several valuable metals). This paper presents the studies on the material composition of red mud and the results of preliminary production and recovery of alum, iron (III) oxide from the mud of Dak Nong Aluminum Company - Vinacomin. Based on the results of exploratory research, a technological process is proposed for in-depth research at scale to recover useful substances from the tailing pond. This research activity shows positive signs to implement orientations on rational utilization of mineral natural resources in the context of the circular economy.
