Abstract:
Engine crankshaft bearing systems in diesel locomotives are composed of plain bearings with hydrodynamically lubricated clearances. According to the reliability theory, the crankshaft bearing systems are considered to be systems of series bearing elements. Therefore, based on the reliability theory for elements and systems in general as well as of the plain bearing joints with hydrodynamic lubrication clearances in particular, the individual reliabilities of the crankshaft neck - bush, the crankpin - bush joints as elements, and the combined reliabilities of the crankshaft bearing systems as serial element systems have been determined for K6S 230 DR diesel engines on D12E locomotives used in the Vietnam railway industry.
